Is Blended Learning Better Than Distance Learning Or Classrooms?

The authors of a new book say that “blended learning” – a mix of classes delivered over the Internet and face-to-face encounters between students and professors – may be the best possible way to teach college. Distance learning on its own, they say, lacks the personal contact needed to stimulate students. What’s really interesting, though, is how outspoken these educators are on the disengagement most students feel in a traditional lecture hall environment. They also offer some very specific, down to earth examples of how technologies like Weblogs and Wikis can be used to improve the online learning environment, unlike some other educators who tend to talk about these applications from a “pie in the sky” viewpoint.
