Colleges Not Welcome In Facebook And Other Web 2.0 Spaces
Online educators are pretty darned excited about using “Web 2.0” applications to reach students. If the kids are basically spending all day playing around online, the logic goes, we can teach them all sorts of great stuff by injecting course information into their favorite websites. But while several schools have had success using Second Life as a teaching environment, it looks like the students are drawing the line there. According to a study by a British education group, students definitely don’t want schools horning into MySpace or Facebook. College kids emphatically told researchers that they don’t want professors chasing them into these sacred web environments, and they basically don’t want to see academic information there.
