A new Job Outlook 2012 survey by The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) sheds some light on which kinds of degree-holders are most prized by hiring companies at the moment. Among the 244 respondents to NACE’s new survey, over half indentified graduates with business, engineering and computer science as the ones they would most likely be seeking in 2012. Within those broad areas, the employers identified finance, business administration, computer engineering and electrical engineering as the best sub-categories for a job seeker to be in.
Of course, that still leaves almost half the other repondents in the survey saying they wanted to hire grads in other specialties than these. Overall, NACE’s respondents sounded a note of cautious optimism on how much actual hiring they will be looking to do next year, indicating that they are planning to bring on about 9.5% more grads from the 2012 class than from 2011′s. About half said they would be reassessing their hiring plans every quarter, to either increase or cut hiring plans based on the economy’s direction, while almost a third said they will reassess plans every month.
